FBA or Fulfillment by Amazon: The First Steps of a Journey


I have always been interested in selling online.

Like many of you I began testing what it would be like with eBay and over time things proved to be fun and I learned a lot in the process. This happened many years ago, however, and when I tried to make it work the best I could I pretty much abandoned the idea. I completely focused on what did end up being my current business, a web design and development company, to which I have almost religiously dedicated the past 9 years of my life.

When I have been extremely fortunate to successfully run my entire business from home, and for almost a decade, I have come to conclude that I am ready to get into other professional endeavors that I am interested in and, with all the knowledge and experience I have I know I will, too, be successful.

Okay, I am not saying I am quitting my business. It is an excellent source of income and things are running smoothly! But I have had to come to conclude that in order to do something right one must focus most of his or her time on it: I am sure you agree with that statement.

The time is now and so I decided to make changes to my business so it will progressively sustain itself while I focus on the new.

I am not going to make this a long story nor am going to explain what Amazon FBA is: if you are reading this is because, like me, you are too interested in selling online─or more specifically on Amazon via their FBA.

I have began to take the steps to learn about this business and I am digging deep. I figured today that I am already one step forward and several hours in than most people out there who know zilch and my only mission is to help you save some time!

Your First Steps

There are literally a gazillion things out there about Amazon FBA. Books, courses, articles, videos, and many others. As I mentioned above, I have already started a business from zero and made it successful. During my time running it I have concluded about one thing:

Do not waste your time.

I know this sounds dumb, nobody likes to waste time! The truth is that most people don’t know they are getting themselves into something that will turn to be a bad decision sooner or later.

This principle is what is fueling these first steps I have taken and I would encourage you to do the same thing, too.

FBA Courses

I will be going into a lot more detail as time goes by. What you need to know now is that you need to take an online course, immediately, to learn as much as you can about the business. The question you are probably asking yourself is which one.

So far I have learned and dug into two out of probably many ways to sell on Amazon. I will explain briefly which these are and where you should go next to learn more about it.

Retail Arbitrage

This is by far the easiest method to get anyone started on Amazon FBA with little money and without the need to import or buy products in bulk unless you can and desire to.

This is the first method I encountered several months ago when by accident I ended up listening to a podcast on the Smart Passive Income website with one of the coolest entrepreneur couples who have been killing it on Amazon for years with this FBA method.

Their business is called The Selling Family and their website is packed with information. I have spent a considerable amount of time researching what they have to offer and I believe, hands down, that they have one of the best websites for you to start.

Private Label

This is the method I am currently researching and contemplating. This method requires more work, time, and a bigger budget than retail arbitrage, but it is definitely a step above when it comes to running a more robust business on Amazon with significantly less work and higher profit margins over time.

I am currently taking a course called Amazon FBA Launch: Faster Rankings, Reviews, and Sales which deals with private labeling on Udemy and choosing this course was not an accident. I found about the author through another search I had done a few days earlier finding this Reddit article where he talks about FBA in a way that really resonated with me.

Because not knowing where to go when starting this business is common, I followed my instincts and purchased the course.

What I can tell you is that this course isn’t perfect yet I have found it packed with extremely good and easy to understand tactics that I am already putting to practice. It is about 3.5 hours long, too, which is something absolutely anyone can do!


This is only the start of a series I will be writing to help out anyone going through the arduous but exiting journey of becoming a successful Amazon seller. It is also a way for me to practice what I have learned and there is a ton I could write about and I just got started!
